Crane operation safety is of Paramount importance. Here are 10 of the most easily overlooked dangerous behaviors. Do your construction site also have these hidden dangers?
1. Overloading operation
Violation: Lifting beyond the rated load by force.
Risks: Structural deformation, wire rope breakage, vehicle overturning.
2. Oblique pulling and tilting:
Violation: Not lifting vertically, dragging goods diagonally.
Risks: Wire rope derailment, uncontrolled load swinging.
3. Unclear signal:
Violation: The command signals are ambiguous, and the operator makes guesses based on experience.
Risk: Accidental operation that may collide with personnel or structures.
4. Not checking the limiters:
Violation: Continuing to use the lifting/slewing limiter despite its failure.
Risks: Hook head hitting the top, boom colliding with obstacles.
5. Soft ground without backing boards:
Violation: Soft ground without laying steel plates or roadbed boxes.
Risk: The outriggers may sink and tip over.
6. Forced operations on windy days:
Violation: Operating at risk when wind speed exceeds level 6 (approximately 12m/s).
Risk: The load may sway out of control and the entire machine may be blown over.
7. Hoisting operations:
Violation: Carrying people in violation of regulations by using hooks or baskets (unless it is a dedicated crane for both people and goods).
Risk: High incidence of fatal accidents caused by falls!
8. Walking with a load:
Violation: Ununloaded mobile cranes (truck cranes, etc. are strictly prohibited).
Risk: Overturning due to a shift in the center of gravity.
9. Ignore daily inspections:
Violations: Failure to check for wire rope wear, hydraulic leakage, etc.
Risk: Sudden malfunction may trigger a chain of accidents.
10. Unlicensed operation:
Violation: Operating cranes by personnel without a certificate (such as the Chinese Q2 certificate).
Risk: Legal liability + Insurance company's refusal to pay!
Suggestions for Safety Operations
Training: All staff study the "Safety Regulations for Lifting Machinery".
Inspection: Complete the inspection of key items 10 minutes before each day's work.
Supervision: Appoint safety officers to correct violations in real time.
